After nearly a decade as an Automotive Engineer witnessing the daily effects of obsolescence on New Product Introduction and in-service design changes for German electronics giants Continental and Siemens, Daniel Grundy moved into the Aerospace Supply Chain Management and Obsolescence. As an Obsolescence practitioner with Rolls-Royce, Safran Electrical, and Siemens Energy, he has both witnessed and been impacted by many of the challenges we all face – Low Volume and High Mix production rates, Obsolescence, Counterfeit Avoidance, REACH and further increasing legislation. Daniel has been part of IIOM for over ten years; for the past six years, he has had the privilege of serving as a Director on the UK and International Council. His work and focus on Through Life Support and Product Longevity has seen me transition back to Automotive Engineering, working for JLR as they realize their vision to be proud creators of the most desirable, modern luxury brands for the most discerning clients.
Intellectual Property Laws in the UK and their Enforcement Strategies (Wednesday, April 16, 2025)
Miles Rees (Intellectual Property Office of the United Kingdom)
Miles Rees joined the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) in 1988, having previously worked for a law firm in South Wales.
He began his career as a trademark examiner and eventually was Deputy Head of Examination when he left that directorate some years later. He has subsequently managed the IPO’s Business Outreach Team, developing marketing campaigns for small and medium-sized businesses throughout the UK.
Miles Rees moved to the Outreach Policy directorate in 2012 and has managed a variety of policy initiatives, including managing relationships with e-commerce platforms and the organization of IP enforcement at large sporting events such as the Euro’s 2022 football tournament.
Miles Rees is currently a Deputy Director with responsibility for all domestic and international enforcement policy activities.
During his career in the IPO, he has completed a Diploma in Law and Intellectual Property, co-authored a book entitled ‘Teach Yourself Intellectual Property’, and has undertaken many media activities, include live radio and TV interviews.
Miles Rees lives in South Wales with his wife Bridget, who also works at the IPO.
