Dr Diganta Das and Deng Yun Chen from CALCE presented their research at  SMTA International 2019 held at Stephan Convention Center, Rosemont, IL, USA on September 22-26, 2019. Dr Das presented his research paper on “Challenges in detection of Assembly level counterfeits”. Dr. Das also Co-Chaired the Session on Inspection methods for long term Assembly Reliability.

Deng Yun Chen, PhD student of Prof. Abhijit Dasgupta and Dr. Michael Osterman also presented his paper (coauthored with Subramani Manoharan, Patrick McCluskey and Michael Osterman) “Impact of 10 year room temperature ageing on SAC105.” This paper reported on the microstructural changes caused by tin based soldier on copper due to accelerated temperature ageing that results in fatigue life reduction and material property changes. This is one of the first work that reported the degradation of solder joint aging near room temperature.
