Industry Standards to Mitigate Counterfeit Risk in the Supply Chain

Jim Creiman

Northrop Grumman Corporation

Abstract: SAE International and its committees of volunteer subject matter experts continue to refine standards and related technical documents to mitigate counterfeit risk in the supply chains for aerospace, defense, and other important applications. These committees have published two dozen documents to help manufacturers, distributors, and test service providers avoid, detect, and address counterfeit risk. New standards for test methods, bearings and batteries are being developed. Existing AS5553 and AS6081 standards for original equipment manufacturers and independent distributors are being updated to address evolving risks. With a focus on three SAE counterfeit mitigation standards committees’ work, this presentation explores the content and use of current counterfeit mitigation standards and changes in progress.
