The Safety Challenges and Strategies of Using Lithium-Ion Batteries provides a comprehensive, practice-focused view of Li-ion battery safety across the full lifecycle from cell chemistry and manufacturing defects to pack design, qualification tests, and the limits of current standards. Drawing on lessons from incidents in consumer electronics, e-mobility, aviation, and energy storage, the book explains failure modes such as thermal runaway, clarifies the trade-offs between energy density and safety, and details mitigation measures including quality assurance and battery management systems. It also addresses supply-chain risks (including re-wrapped and counterfeit cells), storage and transport, evolving EU “right-to-repair” implications, and end-of-life topics like reuse, repurposing, and recycling by equipping engineers, manufacturers, regulators, and operators to assess hazards and design for safer products and systems.
