Radu Diaconescu Talks “Reducing the Fake Electronic Component Ingress Using Blockchain” at the Symposium on Counterfeit Parts and Materials

Bio: Radu is an Electrical Engineer, with an M.Sc. in Management of Technology from EPFL (Swiss Technical Institute), Lausanne, Switzerland. He has a vast industrial experience in the field of electronics and is currently managing Swissmic's business development efforts and sits in the Board of Directors. He also manages the implementation of new technologies such as blockchain into the smart electronics factory and is an active promoter of Industry 4.0.

Abstract: With Industry 4.0 the manufacturing paradigm is shifting back to individualized products, thus entering a new era of “mass customization”. Supply chains are trying to adapt by incorporating new technologies, but the “trust tax” adds unnecessary costs and delays. Blockchain can solve this issue by storing all information related to a product (raw materials used, IP ownership, commercial contracts, shipping information) on an immutable ledger. One of the first applications of the blockchain technology in the electronics industry is the detection and avoidance of fake semiconductor components ingress. This presentation will provide a proof of concept of how such a solution might look like, how it will work and how it will tackle this pressing issue.
