Michael Pecht, director of the University of Maryland’s (UMD) Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE), received IEEE's Outstanding Professional Award in the 2020 Region 2 Awards. Prof. Pecht received this award for his technical contributions and leadership in the area of electronics reliability, safety and sustainability.
IEEE Region 2 sponsors a robust program of awards and recognitions, recognizing, rewarding, and promoting excellence in all facets of the professional lives of its members. The Awards and Recognition Program is one of the most important of all Region 2 activities. It provides the means to recognize those members and Region entities that have brought improvement and recognition to our profession and to the Institute. Candidates are nominated by other IEEE members and then vetted by the Region 2 Awards Committee. The final selection recommendations by the committee are confirmed by a vote of the Region 2 Committee.
Pecht is George E. Dieter Professor of Mechanical Engineering at UMD an also holds a faculty appointment at Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computation. An IEEE, ASME, SAE, and IMAPS Fellow, his research interests include competitive product development, product characterization and qualification, supply chain creation and management, prognostics and health management, product reliability, risk assessment and mitigation. He has authored more than 40 books and more than 900 technical articles, and holds 10 patents.
