Safety-Related Challenges of Using Lithium Ion Batteries

Distinguished University Professor at the University of Maryland, Dr. Michael Pecht, delivered this Tech Talk organized by the Electrical Engineering Society of the University of Moratuwa, Srilanka. While Lithium-ion batteries are becoming increasingly popular for consumer electronics, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems, there are many safety-related issues that must be addressed before their widespread use. Prof. Pecht spoke about these issues and discussed possible ways to tackle them. The event was highly informative and beneficial to the students and faculty, say the organizers of the event and the executive members of the Electrical Engineering Society. It provided opportunities for interaction with the students, faculty, researchers, and administration.
