Industry Standards to Manage Counterfeit Risk

Jim Creiman [Northrop Grumman Corporation]

Abstract:

How can my organization avoid counterfeit parts and materials? SAE International has published dozens of anti-counterfeiting standards and associated technical documents that can help organizations avoid, detect, and mitigate counterfeit risk. Which will be effective for my circumstances?

This presentation provides a roadmap for the application of SAE documents such as AS5553, AS6081, AS6496, AS6171, and AS6174 to protect many types of organizations from counterfeit parts and materials, including organizations outside of the aerospace industry. It will identify suitable users of these documents and provide recommendations for implementation. Finally, the presentation will offer insights into new SAE standards developments to address evolving counterfeit threats.
