The CCDC C5ISR Center PRD Counterfeit Team from the U.S. Army co-hosted with Dr. Diganta Das a workforce development training on “Counterfeit Electronics: Detection and Avoidance” that was held on the 18 th and 25 th August 2020. The audience consisted of more than 250 employees from various departments.

 Key topics covered during this webinar included,
1) How to understand and utilize process change notices for making supply change management and counterfeit detection more efficient,
2) Where to find information sources for parts management and how parts qualification reports and manufacturer reliability reports of life cycle testing should be disclosed and reviewed to further prevent and detect suspected counterfeit parts during procurement,
3) How and when to use AS6171 test methods standard to detect suspected counterfeit parts,
4) How to perform a risk assessment to determine the recommended level of testing to manage the risk associated from a part procured from unauthorized supplier.

Additional matters included electronic part supply chain, assessment of electronic part manufacturers and distributors, how to assess and utilize process change notices, the status of counterfeit electronics-related standards, counterfeit part reporting, and impact of DFAR changes in counterfeit Avoidance.

The webinar helped the workforce understand how to proactively manage their supply chain(s) and counterfeit to reduce its program risk to achieve their program goals and product delivery. Additionally, the PRD CF Team is planning to utilize the knowledge gained through this webinar to support counterfeit activities for C5ISR systems, and continue to bolster counterfeit competency and professional network for future applications across the C5ISR community.
