David Loftus

 Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA)

Abstract: Unprecedented shortages and extended lead times due to the COVID pandemic are prompting most companies to reevaluate and take steps to increase the resilience of their supply chains.  Unfortunately, many buyers feel compelled to seek any possible option to secure badly needed components, potentially introducing gray market and counterfeit components into their supply chain.  Many companies are rediscovering the value of the authorized channel to help cushion supply disruptions and reduce impacts from logistical challenges.  This discussion will focus on current supply chain challenges, manufacturers’ relationship with distribution partners, and how distribution in the authorized channel help solve these problems for customers.  Also, tools will be discussed that help buyers ensure their purchases come from fully authentic sources.
