Course Description

SAE International has developed a comprehensive set of standards to address the pervasive issue of counterfeit parts in the supply chain, primarily through the efforts of its G-19 Counterfeit Electronic Parts Committee and G-21 Counterfeit Materiel Committee. Both G-19 and G-21 standards provide frameworks for organizations to establish robust counterfeit mitigation programs, emphasizing supply chain control, risk assessment, verification processes, and reporting mechanisms to protect against the influx of fraudulent parts. These standards are widely adopted, including by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), underscoring their importance in critical industries.

In addition, G-19A develops and maintains test methods to detect counterfeit EEE, and the Avionics Process Management and G-32 Cyber Physical Systems Security Committee develop and maintain related standards.

The G19 standards include:

 AS5553E – applies to EEE part integrators & OEMs  AS6496A – for authorized distributors
 AS6081A – for independent distribution  AS6301A – verify compliance to AS6081A
 AIR6273A – Terms and Definitions
 AS9970 – COTS Electronic Assemblies

The G21 standards include:

 AS6174 Revision B Materiel other than EEE parts
 AS6834 original Bearings
 AS7492 original Batteries
 AS6832 Revision A Fasteners
 AS6886 original Refrigerants
