Gary Denton, Ph.D., Research Engineer, Lexmark

Bio: Gary Denton, Ph.D., is a research engineer at Lexmark currently working on magnetic particle PUF (Physical Unclonable Function) technology. This work includes computer simulations of the random magnetic patterns, analysis of measured magnetic patterns, and algorithm development for authentication of magnetic PUF "fingerprints." After completing his doctorate in experimental solid state physics, he began his career with Xerox in 1982 working on dual component toning stations for high speed laser printers. In 1995, Gary moved to Lexmark where he continued applying my understanding of electrostatics, optics, and magnetostatics to laser printer development for both mono-component and dual-component laser printers. More recently, his work has focused on the development of magnetic particle PUF technology for authentication of printer supplies. The USPTO has granted 56 patents to date, which includes 5 patents on the magnetic particle PUF technology. More PUF patents are pending.
