BioFred Schipp is an electrical engineer supporting NSWC Crane and the Missile Defense Agency for anti-counterfeit activities. His work on counterfeit electronic parts has led him to assessing over 50 brokers on-site, as well as audits of over 20 DoD contractors, in addition to supporting the 2011 Senate Armed Services Committee investigation into counterfeit parts. He has used his work to gain knowledge on counterfeit part detection, trends, supplier weaknesses, and industry best practices.

Abstract: As counterfeit electronic parts continue to be sold through the gray market, certain trends can be identified from reviewing the thousands of suspect part reports. This presentation identifies some of the trends present within the past couple years, such as obsolescence, temperature range, manufacturers, and part types and their fluctuation in reported parts.
