IDEA-STD-1010-C Acceptability of Electronic Components Distributed in the Open Market
Faiza Khan
Abstract: The IDEA-STD-1010-B Acceptability of Electronic Components Distributed in the Open Market is a one of a kind technical resource used by OEMs, EMS, Government entities, test labs, Independent Distributors, and others - basically, by anyone and everyone who is involved in the inspection of electronic components and valued by all those who hold a stake in ensuring that the components coming on to their boards are not substandard. Although the IDEA-STD-1010-B currently has such a large userbase and is extensively used today, it has been many years since it was published and while the fundamental procedures will remain, the counterfeiters’ processes and expertise have progressed and we need to keep advancing as well. We need to attack counterfeiting from all sides, which is why the IDEA-STD-1010-C will have expanded sections including a section on Purchasing, the first line of defense, an updated section on test labs, a focus on Advanced Inspection and multiple other sections focused on teaching inspectors about all the tools and techniques needed for a thorough inspection of electronic components. The IDEA-STD-1010-C will primarily be released online. We are taking the standard to the next level with visual media, consisting of multiple videos showing the inspection processes and how to differentiate between acceptable and substandard parts and hundreds of photographs, including interactive images that can be zoomed and rotated. While the IDEA-STD-1010-C will remain static, we are also releasing a separate section which will be a repository of images and information which will be constantly updated as new cases are found. This ever-growing library will be a great resource for inspectors to stay several steps ahead of counterfeiters.
