“The Numbers Crunch” Counterfeit Reporting Trends 2025

Richard Smith [ERAI Inc.]

Abstract:

Using data collected over the past 20+ years, ERAI has been tracking counterfeit electronic components and other related products. The presentation will analyze historical reporting trends using data collected by ERAI over the last decade, with a comparative emphasis on the last two years. Along with annual report totals, the data will review the recurrence and classification of the reported parts, as well as changes in the types of components being reported as counterfeited. We will also explore how supply chain fluctuations and product availability affect counterfeiting trends and discuss the factors that affect counterfeit part reporting. We find that relatively lesser-known brands are not safe from counterfeiting. The coverage will include the availability and life-cycle status of parts, as well as the geographical locations of the organizations reporting them. We find some illuminating changes in patterns on those features.
