CALCE is working with CAiRS on a long-term project to apply artificial intelligence and machine learning tools for improving reliability and safety. CAiRS strives to become a world-leading and regional hub for Research in Reliability and Safety Innovation. They have a high level of world-renowned expertise in Artificial Intelligence methodologies, industry-based cluster data, and reliability & safety modeling and algorithms. This project is funded at a level of 3.7 million dollars over 4+ years.

The mission of CAiRS is to research the development of high-quality, reliable, and safe products, systems, and infrastructure. According to the contract, there are five planned research programs related to AI-based Reliability and Safety Innovation and under each area, there are several proposed projects to be conducted over the five years of the program. This statement of work for CALCE is organized following that hierarchy. The deliverables will be based on the fundamental research that is conducted.

The programs include "Anomaly Detection and Syndromic Surveillances", "Innovative Diagnostics for Health Management", "Prognostics for Remaining Useful Life Assessment", "Safety Assurance: Improve functional safety" and "Data Analytics Platform for Reliability".
