Defect Description
Software faults can cover a wide range of possible errors such as coding errors of logic devices that can lead to abnormal performance of a system.
Defect Formation Process(s)
Some software faults include
Coding of a programmable logic device (PLD), which allows insufficient reset pulse duration can lead to abnormal LED activity during hard power cycles [1]
Faulty register setting for the initialization of a particular memory interface inside the boot code of a system leads to a system crash within the operating limits of a system [1].
List of Tests to Precipitate this Defect |
Failure Detection |
Likihood to Precipitate Defect (condition) |
Cold Step Stress |
• Software faults such as coding errors of PLDs are found to reveal under cold step stress [1][2] |
✇ |
Hot Step Stress |
• Software faults such as coding errors lowering temperature operating limits of a system are found to reveal under hot step stress [1] [2] |
✇ |
Thermal Shock |
• Software faults that are sensitive to cold and hot step stress can be revealed in thermal shock. |
✇ |
Combined Environment |
• Same as thermal shock |
