Investing in a Robust Semiconductor Ecosystem: The UMD Story
Ankur Srivastava [University of Maryland]
Abstract:
In this talk, we will discuss how the semiconductor ecosystem has evolved over the last few years following the CHIPS Act. UMD has been involved in several collaborative efforts and continues to make an impact in this ever-changing landscape. UMD activities include an agreement with the Midwest Microelectronics Consortium (MMEC) to expand MMEC’s technical areas to include secure edge microelectronics, 5G/6G communications, and microelectronics for artificial intelligence. In partnership with Northrop Grumman, UMD is active in the Secured Edge Project: Validated GPU Based Secure Processing Module. This project aims to develop validated security measures for next-generation GPUs to enhance the protection of critical hardware systems for the future of artificial intelligence. Other partners for this program include NHanced Semiconductors, Battelle, and NVIDIA. UMD and Booz Allen Hamilton combined forces to create the Mid Atlantic Semiconductor Collaborative (MASC) for the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Microelectronic Commons (ME Commons).
